Happy Pulaski Day

So here's the Library of Congress's account of Pulaski. Notice something? Yeah, they sure as hell mention Buffalo New York, but they omit that Pulaski is the Founding Father of Chicago and also the Godfather of Richard M. Daley! Well, if you're not from Chicago, and I guess Buffalo, and you're reading this blog, which you probably wouldn't be doing anyway considering this blog is SOLELY about Chicago and Chicago happenings and what not, you probably don't know who this Pulaski guy is, besides from what I've already said. Well, he invented the horse. And the mustache. And he was Polish. Until he became American which at that point made him 167% cooler.

Anyway, my pierogis are done and I've got a hankerin' for some potatoey dumpling goodness. As they say in Warsaw, "Slainte!"

International Tuba Day

May 1st is International Tuba Day. What is ITD? Well: "Joel Day founded International Tuba Day in 1979 while attending Lower Merion High School in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Being one of only two tuba players in the band and finding a lack of respect from his fellow classmates, he decided to set a day aside for our recognition as reputable musicians." Yup, a band nerd who couldn't get respect of even the other band nerds decided to make up a holiday in a vain attempt to achieve the respect of the nerd collective known as high school band. (Nerd Collective, totally going to be the name of my new Indie band!)

So why do I care about ITD? Because you can register your own ITD event! Totally going to have a Bluntest ITD Celebration. It's going to be awesome. Hopefully we can score some sweet shirts

Happy American Craft Beer Week!!!

Drink a pint and celebrate all that there is to being an American! And in case you're wondering, no, this is not a hallmark holiday. It's a Federal Holiday as proclaimed by House Resolution 753(which originated in the Committee on Government Reform for some reason). Here's my favorite part of HR 753:

"Whereas American crafter brewers promote the Nation's spirit of independence through a renaissance in hand-crafted beers like those first brought to colonial shores by European settlers and produced here by the Nation's founding fathers, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, for the enjoyment of the citizenry;"

That's right! Up your butt Independence Day! I got a new favorite holiday for celebrating being an American. And this mo-fo is a week long!

(On a personal note, this holiday could not have come at a better time. I lost a take-home exam that was due on Monday, had to rewrite 30+ pages of it on Sunday, had an in-class exam on Monday and then another on Tuesday.)
