Things to share ...
Ok, well, it looks less and less likely I will actually chronicle my journed to Alabama a few weeks ago. This has been compounded by my more recent trip to New Mexico to play drums for JT & The Clouds. We did 4 dates opening for Canadian folksters Po' Girl ... like my Alabama trip, I got the call about 18 hours before I was to be on a plane without hearing or rehearsing with the band once! Huzah! Anyway, it went good ... good times. Got to hang out in some natural hot springs about 2 hours away from anything and see the Milky Way like I never saw it before, play to many people who were amped about chill music, lost my hoodie, and ran my entire lower leg against some cactus while running through the desert brush (it's still bright red and bumpy)!
So, in lieu of actually writing anything out, I put my best photos up ...

So while the rest of these slobs have no excuse for not posting, I do. Been in Alabama recording an album with Ralph "Soul" Jackson and it was completely insane. I'll be posting pictures and a chronicle of the experience soon ... right now I am still catching up with work ...

MADHATTER: "8BIT BULLSHIT" ...
this is about 2 years old now, but I stumbled across it last night while searching for 8bit graphics and other old-timey pixelated junk for a project .... Nerdcore at it's finest ... I'm actually impressed with the vocal delivery and most of the beats ... their tribute to Exitebike, "Overheat" is probably my favorite (of the 3 I listened to) .....

Taken from a rare album "Motown Around The World", this is in fact the actual Supremes singing "Baby, Where Did Our Love Go?" in German. Though from reading the comments I guess it's less than a superb translation. Probably sung phonetically .... give it a listen, it is in fact strange ... this album also includes Stevie Wonder singing "My Cherie Amour" in Italian and the Four Tops singing "My Girl" in Spanish ...

Yeah, that's right. Your favorite Bluntest Editor-in-Chief is gonna be sharing the stage this Saturday night at Martyrs with the Official American Idol Taylor Hicks. Playing horn in the opening band "The Hemispheres" of whom I play with on a regular-ish basis. Anyway, it's come to my attention that this guy might (?) be known for his cover of a Paul Pena tune "Gonna Move". Well, regardless of this connection and how good or bad Mr. Hicks version is (I've never heard it so cannot judge it) the original is one piece of deep hot soul. Seriously, turn yer speakers up and enjoy a whiff of summer in the winter ...
And here's some more of the funk side ... JB doing an certified funky version of Bobby Hebb's masterpiece "Sunny". (1:38 = AWESOME) Of course, this is quite a departure of the original sentiment of the song ... written 2 days after the JFK assassination and 1 day after Hebb's older brother was knifed to death ...
and what the hell ... here's Marvin Gaye's version not released until recently ... from the Motown years fosho!

My first impulse was to run up on you and do a Rambo, whip out the jammy and flat blast both of you . . . but I chilled (It gets pretty good at 2:20, though some of the dance moves with the guys in tuxes are eerily similar to the dancing old guy at the Jackson stop)

So in a strange twist, Pimpernel yelled at me about my lack of posting. Well, ain't that a kick in the pants. I will admit I have been somewhat of a scofflaw in my posting frequency as of late, but with good reason. Mostly just been busy on other work, as well as some silly shit. So here we go on a short list of things ... cause the world needs LAUGHTER.
First off, we released another-couple-of-new tracks on the ol' Drastics myspace. Check that out here ... The tracks are (collectively) called "Fraudulent Parts 1 & 2" and are probably different then anything you've heard before. Kind of a modern rocksteady with hiphop rhymes on top of it. The second part is some dancehall, but like ... I dunno, if The Roots played dancehall? Cause it's live. So yeah ...
Let's see ... oh, also on the music tip, ex-Drastics guitarist Elliot Ross finally got around to puttin' up some tracks from our hip-hop project. Moongriffin. Phantom Crew of Intelligent Robots (yours truly) is on them beats ... ya heard? Again, you probably never heard some shit like this before ... think outsider artist hears one track by the Beastie Boys and one track by Kool Keith and decides to record some hip hop ... plus we gonna be puttin' some tracks up soon with the Intelligent Robots on the mic ... oh my! If you go listen this shizz start with "3 Dolla Bus Trick" ... that's the hit!
and then ... well, it's been a lot of freelance design work and thing ... the Drastics site is getting a complete overhaul, plus I've completed work on some websites n things. I gave my new buddy JT Nero a hand with his myspace page. He just had his CD release show last Saturday at Schubas (and was a Chicago Reader's Pick) and it was a darn good time. Well except for this wasted girl picking a fight with me and then her boyfriend getting into it. Fuckin a.
oh, and then for those of you who don't know, Drastic Bassman, Chris Merrill, was in a mighty strange accident as we were leaving the Hideout two Thursdays ago. Ol boy fell on some ice and broke his legsicle and tore a ligament. Damn. Chris went under the knife las Friday and is recovering (albeit painfully) from what he tells me. Why is the Drastics cursed?
and finally, here is a bitchin' font i found on my work computer labeled "TcatsHo" which is exactly what you think. A dingbat font of characters from the Thundercats. brilliant.

Speaking of pop music, apparently Beyonce has a song "If I were a Boy". I hope that songs concludes that if she was a boy, she would probably be living at home with her parents, probably just got laid off. Cause really, she's only a pretty face (and ass), she's not that good at singing, she can't really dance. Her voice is ok, but not so good that she should be making a brazillian dollars from it.
