You know those Levis commercials? Yeah, got into a conversation about whether or not that was actually Walt Whitman reading those poems. (The poems are written by Whitman) My sister said that it couldn't be because, you know, he's from the 19th century. Well, lo and behold, the "America" poem is likely Whitman, though the other one is read by Will Greer, who played the grandpa in the Waltons. It was likely recorded in the 20's or 30's.

Anyway, the first recording of the human voice was by a Phonautogram in 1860. (Check the audio clip on the right side.) If you don't feel like reading that, here's the gist: This thing recorded sound as a line on paper or wax so scientists could study the acoustics of the recording. However, they didn't realize that these recordings could be played back. The first time these early recordings were played back were in 2008.

Gotta Stop Taking Oxycotin Before Going on the Air

If a picture is worth 1000 words, I'm pretty sure most of those words would be the kid sayin, "Ow, your finger's not supposed to go there." Over and over again. Probably with some sobbing in between. A child is not supposed to be worn like a puppet.

Let me just sum up what the article is about: Nebraska's Supreme Court held that the electric chair was cruel and unusual (i.e. an unconstitutional and thus illegal form of capital punishment). Nebraska law only provides for a person to be sentenced to death by electrocution which it can't do now because of the Supreme Court holding. So the big question is what to do with all the inmates sentenced to death? Right now there's no law on the books in Nebraska allowing for an alternate form of execution and even if there were, some of the inmates were specifically sentenced to "death by electrocution". And now the best quote ever:

"If someone tells you with confidence that they know how this will come out, you should get an ounce of what they're smoking," said Bob Schopp, a law professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln who specializes in criminal law and capital punishment.

Outcome: Nebraska kills them with lethal injection. Now who wants a lid for $450?
